Physically active children are not only healthier but do better academically and in life, and are far more likely to be active as adults.  The first ten years of life provide children with a blueprint for their adult lives and is the time when they develop the critical fundamental movement skills that act as foundations and building blocks for future activity.

PE at Peter Hills has had a real shake up over the last 12 months especially in school competitions! We have created a culture of success and high levels of personal and team achievements. We are currently the Southwark EFL champions Year 6 boys are cross country champions, we finished second in Southwark for indoor athletics and have won bench ball competitions for two years running. This stems from the introduction of the 'Daily Mile', before school fitness activities and gifted and talented training sessions.

All PE is based on a foundation of fitness and fundamental movement skills which are prerequisites for sporting ability.  Skills include:

  • agility (being able to move the body quickly and easily)
  • balance (being able to distribute weight easily to achieve stability)
  • coordination (being able to use limbs together smoothly and efficiently)
  • sports-specific skills (hitting, catching, jumping, throwing, running).

There are 2 hourly sessions per week and children are expected to have their PE kit with them all week, taking it home on Friday

For the year 2018/19, Peter Hills Primary School will receive approximately £16,500 in Sport Premium funding from The Department of Education and The Education Funding Agency. This funding will go towards providing a team of coaches to ensure the quality of P.E. teaching at Peter Hills is of the highest quality.

At Peter Hills, we offer 9 before and after school sports clubs. These are available each week at a maximum cost of £5 per session (no charge for those children receiving the pupil premium funding and no cost for several clubs before school).
